Feministe has been talking about weight lately, and it's striking to read some of the comments there because it's all about how women can't even enjoy food without feeling guilty and disgusted at themselves.
We’re conditioned, particularly as women, to be self-deprecating, to not take up space, to not revel in our bodies and ourselves. We can get 150 comments in a thread about when we realized that we were aware our bodies weren’t up to snuff; let’s see how many we can generate praising ourselves.
Your mission: list at least five things you love about your body and yourself. Five is the floor; you can always do more. And no self-deprecation! No offsetting a compliment with a dig.
It's surprisingly hard. Comments are open. Love yourself a little. See what a difference it makes.
1. My full, soft lips. A makeup artist once called them "the perfect lip shape"
2. My strong Romanian square jawline that resembles Audrey Hepburn's.
3. My high, sharp Romanian cheekbones.
4. My curving, "miniature" waistline that gives me an hourglass figure.
5. My round, feminine hips.
6. My round, perky breasts, including the keloid scar on the side of the right breast.
7. My strong, round, Italian butt.
8. My low, strong, carrying voice that some have called mellifluous.
9. My deep, dark chocolate brown eyes with streaks of gold.
10. My muscled, softly rounded belly with its unique scattering of scars and divuts left over from the IV taping during premature neonatal care.
