land of confusion
Mar. 20th, 2003 10:46 am"So we've gone to war." No, we haven't. I never heard Bush actively, publicly declare war on Iraq yet. Bush just took advantage of the new "ability to declare use of excessive force." Technically, Bush has 90 days--three months--to do whatever he wants with the US military. Three months is a long time. This conflict could be over in three days. We could have "gone to war" without truly going to war.
Some people say that it is a war no matter what, because soldiers and innocent people will be killed. Innocent people are killed every day. That won't change. It's still not a war. Desert Storm wasn't a real war. Vietam wasn't a real war. They were police actions. They were forceable conflicts. World War Two--that was obviously a war. But this, now, is a series of massive conflicts designed to flush out opposing forces and cover up the dirty mistakes made by a government and a nation who was supposed to have all the answers, but screwed up and are just now saying Whoops, sorry.
I want us to flush out Saddam. I want democracy brought to Iraq, because it will be another democratic nation that won't have to live by fear laws. It doesn't matter if the Iraqi people don't know what freedom is. Before we went to Japan and Italy, those countries were brutalized by tyrants. They wouldn't have known freedom if it bit them. Now, Japan loves us. The people emulate us to disgusting proportions by dying their hair blond and eating McDonald's and becoming lactose intolerant and dressing up in Americanized outfits. I'm not saying Iraqi's will suddenly turn around and kiss our feet. On the contrary, they'll probably wander around in a daze wondering what the fuck just happened and they'll probably be mad at us for a while. That's fine. Let them be their own minds.
And yes, in time, the next generation may come to hate what we've done and try to blow us up, but then again, maybe not. Maybe it will be for the better. I don't see any Japanese teenagers rallying to blow up America because we told their parents we were going to try and liberate them.
Bush is doing okay so far. He's doing what he thinks is necessary. I still think he's a childish moron who was never actually elected, but he's been doing okay. Yes, he's right to want Saddam gone, but he hasn't really stopped to think about what he's doing. Is it really necessary? Yes and no. Conflict is like that. All this bomb-dropping and scare tactic propoganda and the media shoving it in our faces every fifteen minutes? Annoying, stupid, more likely to send the sheep masses into a panic, but no one said our government was smart. They're doing what they feel they must. They're humans. Humans are stupid and wasteful and greedy. It's been like that since Oog got jealous because Ug got a brand new mammoth tusk and hung it up in his newly decorated cave.
Bush is trying to make up for what Daddy didn't get around to doing. This was clear from the day Dubya came into office. He knew. He always knew. That pisses me off. But I look around at the sheep and cattle around me and, I know that most of them have been led to believe that "this is the right thing." They have been scared into obedience. I'm so glad that so many of us are not sheep. We know what's really going on. And Bush is still a moron.
I'm against the idea of sending troops to die, committing innocent people to die. I'm a pacifist. The mass loss of human life upsets me greatly. However, I'm also a fan of weeding out the gene pool and population control. If that sounds cruel, horrible, and callous, so be it. War will happen anytime, anywhere, and no amount of white poster board picketing will make leaders sit up and say, "Aww gee, look at all those nice people yelling out there. Maybe I won't attack my sadistic enemy who screwed me over twelve years ago." Same thing with abortion. Pregnant woman who get shoved around by people screaming murder aren't exactly comforted. If anything, they're even more stressed. And don't these people have better things to do than get in someone's face like that? What about my rights? Why should I give a stranger control over what I do to myself? Let them go home and preach freedom and life there. What if I don't see it the way they do? It's sick and it makes me feel violated. As I am sure this conflict makes so many feel sick and violated. But for others, it is a good thing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please remember that. We usually don't.
I want to believe that Nostradamus was right, and that when all this is over and we recover not only from this conflict, but from the icky stupid "superflu" about to hit, that things will get better. He said there would be a century and a half of peace. That's what I'm hoping for. I know it may not happen, but that's what I wish for.
Please do not attack me, yell at me, bash me, stomp on me, try to change my opinion, shove yours down my throat, or otherwise piss me off. We all have our reasons for hating or supporting this decision of conflict. This is mine. That is yours. Be happy. Thank you.
