A huge shout-out to my good friend and former college buddy [livejournal.com profile] uisceboo: She just published her first book!
She was one of my friends and classmates in college, another Creative Writing major, and a very good supporter. I remember all those nights at the apartment brainstorming, and Professor Lewis' classes where we all critiqued and supported.

Yay, Jackie! I knew you could do it.

So I finally watched the Lexx episode "Brigadoom", which is episode 18 of Season 2. It did make me cry, especially the duet between Kai (Michael McManus) and Xev (Xenia Seeberg) in the jail cell. And the episode itself is just incredibly clever. I still say the Brunnen G Battle Song is one of the greatest television themes ever.
Also, I just found out something interesting, from what Dan told me last night as we watched it again: When Kai sings, it's not "real". That's not Kai's voice. It's Stan's (Brian Downey). Apparently, Michael McManus couldn't sing, so they enlisted Brian Downey to dub his voice. Downey is an experienced baritone, an amazing harmonica player, and loves to perform. Also, his voice is the one who actually sings the Brunnen G song. Michael McManus does sing the piano version one and the Irish bar version, because his voice got better. You can hear a signficant difference between the original song and those two sung in the Earth bar, so you know how Michael sounds compared to Brian.
For Brian Downey to sing as Kai, he got rid of his "Southern" twang and deepened his voice to match Kai. He doesn't sound at all like Stan, but if you listen hard enough, you can hear Stan's inflections. However, Xenia Seeburg does sing, and she's not bad.
Isn't that neat?
