Adam came home early. He arrived wet but safe late last night.
Oh, how the rain pounded.
This morning, after my morning errands at work, I got a message that Adam called and said that I wouldn't be happy (but he was laughing). When I called him back, this was the conversation:

Me: Hi. Okay, what won't I be happy about?
Adam: Ohh. Okay, first, let me tell you that I love you.
Me: *sigh* Great. Where are you going?
Adam: (in an "I'm sorry" voice) Boston.
Me: Why are you going to Boston?
Adam: Because [two of his coworkers] have been running a conference there with 150 machines and they're in over their heads. So I will be flying out at eleven to come rescue them.
Me: Flying, huh? Must be urgent. How long will you be gone?
Adam: (in an "I'm sorry" voice) I'll be back on Friday.
Me: *sigh* Okay, honey. Can you leave me some cash so I can go grocery shopping until you get back?
Adam: Yeah, I'll leave you a hundred. I'm sorry. I love you. You're probably mad at me.
Me: Oh, no, I'm not mad. Not at all. This is your job. You're the best at what you do. But your boss owes you some fucking compensation. I want a new electric box and I want him to pay to install our dishwasher!
Adam: *laugh* Yeah, I'm gonna talk to him about that. I love you.
Me: Love you too. Be safe. I know you hate planes.
Adam: Thank the gods I am getting a promotion and a raise.
Me: No shit.

My life is amusing.
It may be irritating, but he loves the job, and his boss does treat him well, and it's a paycheck, and it's a very good job. But we have gotten into this fantastic routine, where he'll warn me that he has to leave either very soon or for more than a week, by saying in a boyish apologetic voice, "First, I love you. Second, I'm sorry." And I will sigh and roll my eyes and smile knowingly and ask, "Where are you going and for how long, and are you driving or flying?"

Routine in a marriage can be a lovely thing.

EDIT, several hours later: His flight has been severely delayed due to weather (duh). He won't be back till Saturday now.

I was eating baked ziti and enjoying it, so I was chewing quickly. And I chomped on my tongue hard enough to bit off a piece from the top and leave a hole.
Blood tastes so very salty.
Pressure with ice, no sucking, give it time. Keep applying ice. Should heal in a week or two.

Adam is in Boston and safe.

It hasn't stopped raining. I'm concerned for the walking path to the bus stop, whether or not it will flood and if I will be able to get to the bus in the morning. I know my boss will understand; he was surprised I made it in today. Many of the streets of downtown DC are very flooded and blocked off. Some of the Metro stations and trains have been severely delayed.
We needed the rain. Not this much.
