Adam picked up Penelope this morning, and had a very long detailed talk with the vet. The vet and his assistants had poked around inside Penelope for a good ten minutes before concluding that she was, in fact, missing her reproductive organs and therefore there was no surgery to be actually performed. This poking process was just as invasive, though. They had found ringworm eggs, but not actual worms, so the deworming meds will kill any worms that have hatched, and we (or I, rather) should expect to see them in the clumps of litter that I scoop. Ew. It was not the type that would have infected humans, so that is good. The other two cats were probably not infected due to their own personal cleanliness, and the fact that Penelope mostly uses the litter box upstairs more than they do. However, we will take Luna and Jupiter to get checked out, just in case. When we have the money. Overall, the cost was actually the same as it would have been for a spay surgery including pain meds and deworming meds.
And before all that Adam had gone to the MVA (or DMV) and gotten new tags for the green van, which had been with Joey (our mechanic friend) being fixed. And he also paid the speeding tickets that Jason had not paid when Jason had been using the van before Adam took it to Joey. So, a bunch of money later, Adam took Penelope home and shut her in the spare room with her own food and water and litter box and toys and bedding.

So as it turns out, Penelope was never being affected by hormones. She's just territorial from being an outdoor cat, and Jupiter is just intrigued by her because she is new and strange and female.

So!

I may be more injured than I previously assumed. There is insistent stabby pain on my right side toward the back, in the lower rib area, and on my right hip. My right ankle responds badly and throbbingly when I put weight on it, annoying me with stabbity, twisting, jolting levels of ouchdamnitstopit pain. This puzzles me, as I had crashed down the stairs mostly on my left side, hence the lovely mass of bruises on that leg. But it is possible that sudden tension may have done something to my right ankle, because it was one-thirty in the morning, I'd been half-asleep, and I seem to remember banging my ribs and hip against the wall and banister, clenching and tensing all my muscles everywhere, and twisting my right foot in a desperate attempt to stop myself from pitching forward. So there you go.
But, hey, that's life, and that's what happens when you fall halfway down a flight of (carpeted) stairs (had they not been carpeted, it might have been different). I'm not whining or crying about it. I am simply reporting, cataloguing, and assessing damage as I perceive it. I asked Adam to massage some healing oil into my bruises and sore places last night, which of course he was very excited to do, as it involved me getting naked. I'm also fairly certain that he put me under to help me deal with the pain, but it is very fuzzy, so he must have told me to forget. That's hypnosis for you.

I had a nice big salad for lunch, with grilled asparagus, avocado, kalamata olives, portabella mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese all chopped up with romaine lettuce and drizzled with olive oil. And I drank kombucha tea blended with cranberry juice. It was all delicious. So I do feel better. Except that I'm limping. But that's not unusual. I'm just limping more than normal, and on the side that I usually don't limp on.

Thank you to those who have been cheering me up. I feel much lighter.
