Coherency is a virtue.
Details about the New York trip so I don't forget.
On Wednesday, Adam and I didn't leave his work in Virginia until almost eight, and we arrived at the hotel in New Jersey at midnight. His job in Manhattan started at six Thursday morning, which meant we had to be up by five. The hotel messed things up twice, and we finally got to sleep just before one.
We woke up just before five, got into the work van, and went into the city, ending up at the Intercontinental The Barclay on 48th Street. Adam got to work setting up on the third floor. I freshened up in the lobby restroom, then went to a corner deli and got breakfast. Egg and bacon on a plain bagel for me, sesame bagel for Adam. He finished setting up the job, and we left. His next job, on Madison Ave, was done quickly. A final job, a simple pick-up, wasn't until three-thirty, so at noon we drove around and parked on the street to wait. He stayed in the van while I went out to enjoy the city.
I had put aside the cash to get my eyebrows waxed, and decided that getting it done in Manhattan would be a nice change. There was a salon on 1st Ave between 57th and 58th, and the pricing was a dollar less than my usual little salon in Gaithersburg. Seven dollars for eyebrows was the cheapest I'd ever seen. I walked in, spoke to the lady, and she recommended threading instead of waxing. I had never had threading, so I asked questions and decided it would be fascinating. It really was. It felt like constant pinpricks, quick as lightning. When she was done and brought me the mirror, I actually exclaimed out loud. It's amazing what people can do with thread. I gave her a generous tip and left happy.
In the same shopping neighborhood, I found a Duane Reade drugstore, which I always go to when I'm in New York, since Maryland doesn't have one. I then found a pet food shop called Furry Paws, and bought some Innova canned cat food and Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie canned cat food, because I can never resist good treats for my cats.
Adam and I then found the Amish Market, and I bought several bottles of Venga Energize and Brainstorm, which I cannot find anywhere but New York. I got a bottle of Function Alternative Energy Drink, one of my favorites. I also got TeaNY Energy Tea and Zico Pomberry Coconut Water. I have a thing for weird juice and tea drinks, really.
We found a Coldstone Creamery nearby, and I finally got to have my cheesecake ice cream with fudge topping, while Adam had mint chocolate chip. Adam bought a chicken bake sandwich, which we shared, and then it was time for his final job. We made it out of the city just after four-thirty. Got back to the shop in Virginia around nine-thirty. Moved our things to our car, and got home around ten-thirty.
At that point, I nearly passed out before realizing that I hadn't had anything to eat since the chicken bake around two. But even after I ate the tuna sandwich Adam quickly made for me, I knew it wasn't just lack of food and fatigue. I went to bed feeling like the entire bedroom was a boat in a storm. Woke up only marginally less dizzy. Adam went downstairs to make breakfast. Rose, who had been lying on top of me and nuzzling me, watched me carefully while I slowly got dressed. She cried at me occasionally and touched me with both paws, a universal Are You Okay, Mommy? gesture. I made it down the stairs very slowly, and a plate of eggs with sausage was waiting with me, as well as fresh pressed yerba mate. I ate every bite, then made whole wheat toast to soak up the rest of the egg. I felt better. I still feel extremely out of sorts, light-headed, intensely fatigued, and scooped out. I'm worried I may have had a seizure yesterday and didn't even notice. It may have happened right after we got home and I was sitting in one of the armchairs trying not to faint. But all I can do now is watch myself. I'll go back downstairs for more food soon.
I miss Manhattan already.
