Really weird seizure triggers
Jan. 22nd, 2008 03:11 pmAfter reading an article about a woman with musicogenic epilepsy who seized while listening to Sean Paul songs, I started thinking back to the various times I've found myself fighting back a TLE seizure while doing something that didn't seem all that triggering. I'm listing them here to remind myself later:
Brushing my teeth.
Washing dishes.
Running the vacuum.
Concentrating on a very small physical task; like threading a needle, cutting out a shape from paper, gluing something together, buttoning a shirt, putting a key in a lock. Most things involving fine motor coordination. This is definitely connected to the cerebral palsy.
Listening intently to a song, speech, or conversation.
Solving a math problem.
Drawing and writing by hand for a long time.
Remembering a dream.
Being tickled.
Having sex for a very long time.
Getting a foot massage.
Hearing excessive chewing noises.
Hearing certain high-pitched, drawn-out noises.
Having someone whisper in my ear.
Hearing certain rap and hip-hop songs.
Of course, I didn't seize all the times that these things happened, and these things don't always trigger seizures. It doesn't mean I'll seize every time I brush my teeth or get a foot massage or hear someone chew food. But at one point or another, I have experienced simple partials or complex partials because of these things. Crazy, isn't it? I thought I was crazy for a while. Maybe I'm just totally crazy in general? Wait, don't answer that.
