It's Thursday
Dec. 12th, 2002 10:19 amI thought pain and swelling was supposed to go *away* after a couple of days. Turns out I have a dry socket after all, which is basically a hole in the gums with exposed nerves that *reallyreallyhurt*. Found this out when I called the dentist and he told me to come right over so he could administer topical meds. I called the flower shop and Watson came to take me. Doc stuffed tiny cotton balls soaked with a nerve block into my mouth where the bottom teeth used to be. That was Tuesday. Wednesday, the right side was still hurting, and I was still home from work (it was still a snow day and liberal leave). So finally Adam suggested some of the lidocaine that was in the fridge. He took a few Q-Tips and injected them with liquid nerve block and I stuck them in my mouth until they could soak in. Plus I've been alternating between the diminishing Vicodin and Aleve, and salt water. Last night I actually managed to slurp down the noodles in a mug of chicken noodle soup. I can't wait til I can eat again.
Right now, I'm at work. I'm trying not to open my mouth unless I have to. I applied some more lidocaine this morning. My whole head feels like it's numb and being squeezed. Very annoying. Kind of like sinus pressure but throbbing, too.
Luckily I go back on Saturday to have the stitches out and more pain medication applied. It should go away completely in another week, or two.
WAH!
