My new feet. It's a start
Aug. 17th, 2004 07:40 pmI picked up my custom orthotics at the chiropracter's after work. I still think this guy is amazing. The orthotics were built after a computer pad recorded my steps and how I walked. So these orthotics are not only completely formed to my feet, they are specifically formed to correct any bad posture, any problems I have while standing and walking. I walked back to the Bethesda Metro -- fifteen minutes. Guess what? No pain. None in the ankles. None in the sciatic area. None in the lower back. I walked home from the Shady Grove Metro, twenty minutes. By then, my feet, which have been forced into a new alignment, began to hurt from being unused to walking so differently. However, that was the only discomfort. I told Dr. Koplelove that walking with the orthotics actually made me mentally want to straighten up, put my shoulders back, thrust my hips forward, and keep my head high -- invisible string from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, tugging. I go back in two weeks to show Dr. Kopelove how things have been going. I have a feeling that by that time, most of the issues I have been having with my back and legs will have severely dimished if not disappeared (at least while I'm on my feet).
Dr. Kopelove explained that when I walk, I'd want my foot to "roll" inward -- which was just what was happening. I was so excited I wanted to hug him. But I settled for a strong, grateful handshake. He reminds me of my father. Very softspoken, nothing but warmth and caring in his eyes.
So, I would like to recommend him to anyone who lives in the area and wouldn't mind some rather unconventional chiropractic care. He's not like any chiropracter I've met. He doesn't just work with symptoms, he goes straight to the source. Which is why I am so very impressed.
Ooooh... Adam just snuck up behind me and popped a piece of bread into my mouth. It was soaked with olive oil, basil, and garlic. Ummmmm. *happiness*
Hugs go out to Dawn, and Beca, who are each having a Bad Day. And prayers go out to Dawn, too. I know you're Christian, hon, but I'm going to send out some offers to my own gods. You'll get through this. Just don't give up.
