Last night, I woke up at eleven to hear voices downstairs. I jumped out of bed in my white chemise, ran to the top of the stairs to see Danny trudging up with his bags. I welcomed him home, watched him head into his room, then hurried down the stairs to see Adam coming out of the living room holding a thing wrapped in white paper. He smiled in relief, grabbed me, and kissed me for a long time. "Oh, I've missed you," he whispered.
When we pulled away, he said, "This is a present for you," and unwrapped the thing.
It was a large figurine statue. It was two dragons clinging to a sword blade buried in painted earth. A crystal ball rested on top. One dragon was blue and purple. The other was red and gold. They faced each other like lovers, wrapped around the blade.
I actually went pale, gasped out loud, and clapped my hands over my mouth.
It was Ifrit and Jinniyah.
I just breathed, "Oh my gods, where did you find this? It's beautiful!"
And he smiled again, "At a truck stop."
A truck stop. He found the embodiments of our souls at a truck stop. He said he'd been pulled there like a magnet. And this had been the only statue that had a pair of dragons. And the dragons had been our colors. He knew. He'd been paying attention. He knew how much I'd been needing a home for my guardian, Jinniyah, and a better one for his guardian Ifrit. And this is it.
It's a sword blade. That is significant too.
There is glitter on their bodies like sun and moon light.
I need my digital camera.
We sat down in the living room and admired the statue. He kept asking me if I liked it. I just stared at him with a strange, haunted expression on my face. Did I like it? Does the moon rise after the sun sets?

After a while, we went upstairs to bed. Adam and Danny had bought blankets, since the hotel room blankets had been horrible. Adam had barely slept since Saturday because of the beds. We snuggled under the new blanket that felt like rabbit fur it was so soft. He was eager, more than eager, quickly excited and desperate to hold me. We spent an eternity kissing, souls passing back and forth through our mouths. Since neither of us like sex with menses, he pulled me on top and after another forever kiss, I pulled back, kissed down his neck and chest, and then I made sure he knew I welcomed him home. Afterwards, he said I had made his ears ring. He used words like fantastic and wonderful which made my ego soar. Oh, I've missed you.

And when we fell asleep, I dreamed of dragons.
