Uhhhhhhhhhh....duhhhhh....guhhhhh....
Jan. 18th, 2004 09:13 pmWe finally saw Return of the King. Everything that's been said about it is true--it's one of the most extraordinary, amazing, breathtaking, incredible, unbelievable, stunning, funny, shattering, depressing, mind-blowing, head-spinning, heart-pounding, jaw-dropping, fantastic, emotional, ripping, gripping, powerful, triumphant [insert additional adjectives here] movies I have ever, ever seen. Ever. And yeah, the entire sequence of Pippin starting the lighting of Gondor's signal fires to call for aid is indeed the most amazing piece of cinematic work in film history. When I was reading people's reviews and they kept saying "the lighting of the signal fires" I had no clue what they were talking about. I thought, what's the big deal about lighting a couple of signal fires? Until I actually saw the sweeping, breathless camera span over mountains, plains, and endless skies. That was just...wow.
Adam and I sat in two of the "disability" seats near the front, so we could stretch our legs and snuggle. We did wind up joking at the appropriately amusing parts, crying (me, at least) at the emotional parts, grinning like morons at the happy parts. I'm so glad I finally saw it. I may never look at visual storytelling the same way again.
