I found out that one of my coworkers has a daughter with fibromyalgia. She says that her daughter would frequently lose her appetite due to pain and fatigue, and that her taking fish oil capsules worked near miracles. Apparently the girl (she's 20) and her doctor decided to try her on fish oil last November. She started taking 4,000 mg of fish oil every day, and since then she's done so well that her doctor has weaned her off most of her prescription drugs, which included Cymbalta, Flexeril, Lunesta, and a few others, including one that stimulated her appetite. She now just takes Robaxin for flare-ups, and fish oil, plus a few other supplements like MSM and L-Tyrosine, every day. She's also eating regularly and is much happier.
Obviously this wouldn't work for everyone, but it's awesome to know that it works for her.
She goes to college across the country so it's not like I can talk to her, but this is definitely something I'm going to mention to that rheumetologist. Even if he does give me a prescription, I think the omega-3 supplementation would work very well.
