My doctor just called to check up on me. She'd called to warn me that the Trileptal might lower the effectiveness of the birth control pills, and then she realized that we'd talked about this back in January of 2006, when I was first diagnosed with epilepsy. I had actually talked to her colleague, though, the other female doctor in the office that I see when she's not available, so I can understand the confusion. I updated her about the fibromyalgia diagnosis back in June, and that I'm taking cyclobenzaprine and everything is going well -- I kind of felt that I wanted to just talk with her and let her know how I was, because I could tell she realized her call hadn't been necessary. It was still very sweet.
I'm doing shoulder and arm exercises, rotations and stretches, and neck stretches. There is a lot of cracking and popping, because omigods those muscles are tense. The entire right side of my neck along with part of the shoulder feels a little like it's been chewed on by a vampire with extremely hot fiery teeth. I touch the skin and feel burned. I press on the muscles and flinch. So there's definitely some kind of damage there. Massage hurts badly, so for now I'll try not to strain those muscles any further. I took an anti-inflammatory, so I should feel some relief soon.
Damn this fibro flare. My body desires total collapse. My nerves are raw. I feel annoyingly feverish and swollen, a hallmark of a flare. It will pass, but while I'm caught in it I feel almost eternally drained.
I've switched to using my other favorite purse until the pain stops. It has a longer handle and it's a little easier on my shoulders, and with the way the two main compartments are set up, it can distribute all my stuff more easily. It's actually much more suited to hold my copy of Charles de Lint's Widdershins than the other purse was, since the book can have it's own compartment. That book is thick, and long, and heavy. It's unlike any other trade paperback I've handled except for Mark Helprin's Winter's Tale (which I keep in it's own special place on a shelf because it is a precious book), which is a monster of a paperback.
Since finishing The Onion Girl I have had dozens of questions for Jilly and Geordie and everyone, so I'm glad I get to read the sequel now. And I finally understand why de Lint made the choice to continue the relationship between the sisters at the end, among other things (I still think the death should have been final, but now I get it). Although I still can't figure out the exact ages of Jilly and Geordie, and it's bothering me a little bit.
