While Adam had been in the city, his work van had been broken into. His laptop bag was stolen.
*grinds teeth, keeps mouth shut about this fucking city*
He can get another laptop, other network cables and tools. But there were other things in that bag that were irreplaceable.

We're going to make dinner now. I can't fume properly on an empty stomach.

Every time I incrementally begin gaining some hope for humanity, something like this happens.

Sorry. Is it any consolation to imagine how broken the person stealing it must be? How far down do you spiral to decide that stealing someone's laptop is an acceptable course of action? Probably not, and it doesn't have to be; just nothing good to say right now. Here's hoping he crosses the tracks of the karma train without looking.

Thanks, that does help. There's some hope that we can at least yell at him -- when Adam's computer is started up, his AIM window pops up and signs on automatically. So if I'm on AIM and I see Adam's screenname, I can rip the thief to pieces. And even if we don't get the laptop bag, I'll feel better about it.
Then again, it is possible the thief will try to hock it...

*hugs*

that stinks. Is there any chance of the laptop being recovered? I know odds of law enforcement finding it are slim.

Probably not. The only way to really catch the thief is if the AIM pops up; it does this as soon as the laptop is turned on and booted up. But I don't know if any of us would be able catch him like that.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

If you and Adam have the patience, I'd suggest checking with pawn shops in the area and search on eBay every 3-4 days.

Does Adam have a list of what sort of tools were stolen? I buy and sell telecom/network/catv tools on eBay, and I will watch for them if I know what I'm looking for.

Well, there was a gold-plated cable wire, plus a bunch of other network tools. I'll have to ask him for specifics.
