I've seen a few writing-minded LJers doing this, so...

Give me writing prompts. Jump-starts. Random things. If you know my novel, feel free to make suggestions for it. Maybe I'll write a short story or a novella and incorporate everything.

Autumn is at last official in Maryland. My dry dry skin says so. *slathers on more balm, precious nourishing sea buckthorn shea butter balm*

I feel unbelievably disconnected from everything. I could not begin to explain why.
This constant, consistent fibro pain, not even flare-ups. The intense insane knowledge that any moment can trigger a seizure's aura even with the medication's valiant soldier diligence. The tension and spasms of a lifetime of cerebral palsy.
No, that's not the reason.
It just is the way it is.
And I carry on.

This isn't really a writing prompt, but it's a writing... thing. A friend of mine made a jar of writing prompts for me. She printed them out and rolled them into little tiny tubes of paper and taped them shut and stuffed them into a jar so that every time I get blocked, I open the jar and write for fifteen minutes on the random prompt I pull out. It really works to unblock the creative flow!

Porcupines. Cheese. The fifteenth Doctor (according to you). Why turtles have shells.
Peach and pink roses. Feathers escaping a down coat. Thin boats. Mexico. Wool.

Writing prompt, eh?

I demand you take something you fear or hate and make it lovable! Add what you need, take away what you don't, until you don't hate or fear it anymore.

What I use for a writing prompt is starting a paragraph along the lines of:

"Three men burst into the room with guns..."

And then I have to answer questions like Who are these men? Why do they have guns? Who are they working for? What do they want? And before you know it, you have a new plot twist, a new story line, some new characters.

A good book to buy is No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Baty. Tons of ideas of what to do when you're stuck.
