Spent all of yesterday at the neurology center because after my initial exam, there were two slots open for an EEG and an MRI the same day. Luckily there was a shopping center across the street.
The doctor couldn't find anything physically wrong that would be causing the seizures except for the CP. He wanted to put me on drugs right away but I refused and said I wanted to be tested first. I thought it was a smart choice.
The EEG was okay. The lab tech hooked me up and made me do quick, deep breaths for three minutes. Then he started flashing lights at me. My eyes were closed, but I saw red and blue lights against a white background, flashing faster and faster. Just at the very corners of my eyes I saw those familiar yellow and orange flashes that were not part of the "test"--they were my own brain's making. Right on cue, my right arm started shaking and I had a very small convulsion. Beth, later, said it may have been an epileptic reaction because when the flashy lights start, you're not supposed to react like that. Adam says that when he had his EEG he didn't even see colors. I'm wondering if that meant there really is something wrong with me.
After the EEG, I went across to the shopping center, ate lunch, and got a free mini-facial at a day spa. Then at 5:30, I went back for the MRI. That was kinda cool. I felt like I was in a plastic capsule that made loud buzzy noises. It was over in half an hour. The receptionist offered to drive me home, since she's practically my neighbor, fancy that.
The results are being sent to the doctor. He wants me back in three weeks for a follow-up. I just want to know if the tests confirmed anything! Did my shaking show up on the EEG? Did the MRI show anything? Gar! They must let me know! I don't want to have gone through all that and then get medicated over nothing. Either there is something that needs medicating, or there isn't. Either way, I just want to know.
Honestly, I think the seizing is because my body and brain are still trying to adjust to the cerebral palsy being "halfway cured". My muscles are in a state of freak-out from being so relaxed for the first time ever. They keep trying to clench up and tighten like it used to be. So my brain may be firing off confused signals, going "What the fuck? What's this? This isn't right! Aaaahhh! *twitch*"
I hope the neurologists agree with that...or something. I dunno. I just don't like the seizures. Who would?
