Shit happens
Jan. 16th, 2008 03:34 pmWoke up feeling like hell. Feverish, congested, could barely breathe. Couldn't stand up straight. Could barely walk. Called in sick to work. Slept until 12:45 PM. Had intense dreams. Took an extremely hot shower to try and sweat out the virus.
Came downstairs to the living room, turned on the laptop, checked my bank account online. Discovered a fradulent charge of nearly seven hundred dollars, withdrawn from my account by an unknown company. Got royally pissed. Called the bank. They said they'd begin an investigation, but I needed to fill out a fraud affadavit form. Called Charlotte, who drove me to a branch. I sat down with a lovely young man who helped me out. Turns out the charge was still processing. If it goes through, a full investigation will be launched and I'll get the money back in ten days. If it doesn't go through, they can smack it down and I'll have the money back in less than a week. Either way, we cancelled my debit card, so I'll get a new one in the mail in less than a week. I went to a teller and withdrew cash from my savings account to live off of until this bullshit is sorted out, since I can no longer access my bank account online or via ATM. I just paid a few big bills, too, which have not yet been withdrawn, so before I get the money back my account will be in the negative. Grar.
However, I am not completely broke. I'll have a bonus coming at the end of the month and a raise in February. And maybe, hopefully, soon, my roommate will get enough money to start paying rent again, so that will be more money.
It's just awfully frustrating.
And because I am still pissed off, and sick, and annoyed, I am going to point out and vent about a random, huge grammar error that almost everyone makes, which drives me insane, and I feel the need to vent after hearing it spoken and written so many, many times.
When you say, "This is a wonderful day for my (husband, wife, friend, family) and I" that is NOT CORRECT. "This is a wonderful day for my husband and me" is correct. Take out the other pronoun. You wouldn't say "This is a wonderful day for I" would you?
I also have been hearing, "Joey and I's new (house, cat, dog, car, baby, alien love child)." That is also NOT CORRECT. It makes NO FUCKING SENSE. You wouldn't say "I's new house." Who the fuck is I? Say, "Joey and my new house." Why? Because it is a compound possessive.
For fuck's sake, we usually learn this as children. It is basic grammar. I don't know why people suddenly feel the need to skew it like this. It doesn't make you look smarter. It's just wrong grammar. Get it right. Please.

And I will apologize, because I am sick, and cranky, and upset, and pissy, and bitchy, and so right now I am going to take it all out on bad grammar. So there. And if I'm a bitch and a snob, well, I'm a bitch and a snob. But I needed to rant. Stress, you see.
