"How does it feel?" the dream man asked.
"Like being scooped out," I whispered. "Like my brain ran a marathon and then got electrocuted."
"And the looking glass?"
"It cracks, sometimes. And then things get really warped."
The dream changed, and I started screaming. I fell so easily. Everything was spinning. I was drowning. I opened my eyes halfway, and saw the alarm clock. It went off, blaring that screeching bird sound that Adam set months ago. I jumped up reflexively, shut it off, then lost my balance and fell as I reached for my clothes. My brain stayed down. I could barely think. I found the phone and left a message for my boss, stumbling over my words. I crawled back into bed next to my husband collapsed again, nightmare after nightmare. I woke up five hours later, slightly better. I got dressed, pulled the covers up over my husband's shoulders, and went downstairs. Breakfast was the Acai Apple Pomegranate Granola. I feel slightly better, if twitchy. The nightmares were horrible.
