*sniff*
My kitten smells like yellow cake.
Seriously.
*sniff*
(Without frosting.)

She's hanging out on my lap right now. I've realized that every time I snuggled her, I smelled yellow cake.

Adam says she smells like pine.

I've read posts on cat lover forums that talk about this. Some people say their cats smell like blueberry muffins, or wildflowers, or plain bagels.

Not every cat has a particular smell, apparently. I just sniffed Luna and Jupiter and I got nothing.
Wait. *sniffs again* No, wait. Luna smells like blueberry muffins and Jupiter smells like freshly turned earth.

Huh.

Fascinating.

*sniffs again*

Rose definitely smells like cake.

My best friend's dog, Cleveland, smells something like dry Cheerios. Also, at least for me, I think most ferrets (when not in need of a bath, anyway) smell like clean, freshly powdered babies.

Not Honey-Nut Cheerios, just plain? That's neat!

I agree with the ferret smell. It's either freshly powdered babies, or urine and dirt.

My dog has recently had some yeast infections in his ears and so he smelled rather like bread for a while. It was very odd.

Om nom nom!

Keiko doesn't smell like anything. Well, her face smells vaguely fishy after dinner, since she likes seafood cat food most of all.

This is why we no longer feed our cats fish or sea food flavored food. They smell like fish after a while! ;b

Hehe, yep, Keiko does smell like a little mer-cat around feeding time!

We started feeding Keiko seafood biscuits when we first got her. She was sick, and the vet suggested the seafood stuff, as the stronger smell would stimulate her appetite - and it worked, and it's been a favourite of hers since.

We've tried to introduce more food into her diet, but she's picky and doesn't seem to get bored of the biscuits. She doesn't eat wet food, she barely touches fresh organic chicken wings, she'll eat a bit of mince here and there but that's about it. I get worried that she doesn't have enough variety in her diet, but maybe that's just by human standards...

After bathing, my cat smells like a fresh spring rain. Seriously. If I catch her bathing, I run over and bury my face in her fur and sniff away. She smells pretty good most of the time (except right after poopin'), but minutes after bathing herself - it's the most amazing smell in the world.

Oooh, spring rain!

It must be something in the saliva of specific cats that register with the brains of specific humans.

Maybe Rose wants to please you all so much, she changes her scent.

That could be. I actually wonder if baby animals will actively alter their personal scents to be compatible with their parents or whatever adult is raising them. I mean, it's a fact that human babies have a particular scent chemistry uniquely tuned to their mothers and fathers, which cause the parents to want to cuddle and kiss the babies constantly.

One of my kitties always smells like moist cat food, even though we haven't fed them moist cat food in years. I joke that he has a secret stash of the stuff.
