I called my insurance company to find out about the authorization on the Strattera. The HMO is still "deciding". Joy.
Meanwhile, I am emailing back and forth with the very nice people who manufacture the Attend supplement. They are not giving me a sales pitch, they're just telling me the truth: That Attend has been shown to be as effective as Ritalin, Adderall, Strattera, etc, if taken consistently for a minimum of six weeks. I have explained my situation and told them that some of my friends are really skeptical about me choosing a nutritional supplement over or alongside a prescription. They told me that I'm not the first customer to express skeptcism. This one woman even offered her own story about her family: Her kids were taken off Ritalin after a couple of months of Attend, because apparently the Attend did the exact same thing, without all the major side effects.
I'll keep taking the Attend just because it couldn't hurt, and if it produces the same effect as the Strattera, and more, that will be great. All the same, though. . .it's the principle of the thing. Decide, nothing: Just authorize the damn prescription! Sigh.
Adam said that Ritalin and Dexadrin did help him get focused for all those years, until he stopped taking them and realized he didn't need them as much. I think I'm being so gung-ho about getting the Strattera back because I think he's right: I think that regardless of whether or not some special supplement puts me in the same place, I have an issue that needs to be addressed with these chemicals. And I may need to take those chemicals for a while before I can say I don't need them. And if the HMO is a bunch of assholes and doesn't authorize the Strattera, I will ask my doctor for, say, Adderall or Concerta, possibly hate it, and then maybe the HMO will give the go-ahead on the Strattera. Sigh again.
Can anyone who has taken Adderall or Concerta tell me what it was like, just so I know?
