Adam had a very, very brief work day -- went in at seven for a quick check of his Blair House job (setting up internet for the visiting president of Poland). He called me at ten to tell me he was on his way home. The boss had told him to go see a doctor about the finger injury. So I called Kaiser Permanente and got my stubborn husband an afternoon appointment. The doctor had a great sense of humor about it all. He laughed when I explained how Adam just wanted to walk it off, picked cat hair off Adam's shirt and asked us how many cats we had, and chatted with us about little things. X-rays were had to make sure there was no bone damage. Diagnosis, officially, is "contusion of finger, abrasion of hand." Dr. Shen gave us antibiotic gel and antibiotic pills to ward off potential infection, gauze and bandages and a gauze removal kit, and a suggestion to follow up in a week or two. He wrapped Adam's pinky in gauze and then put a tubular gauze sock on it. Well, I thought it looked like a sock. It's very cute. Kaiser filed a workman's comp claim for Adam since the injury did happen while he was working.
We ate lunch at Panera (I had an amazing mozzarella and tomato panini), bought toys at Harbor Freight Hardware (like another ceramic knife), and went to the CVS in our neighborhood so I could refill my prescriptions. We are now resting and watching the designer snow outside. Happily, the roads were clear and it didn't seem like anyone was losing their minds -- this is Maryland, after all, and even a hint of precipitation makes people go crazy. I am not loving the snow, but this will ease me into it. Hello, December.
