Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all prepared their boats and left the island. Love was the only one who stayed behind. You see, Love wanted to wait until the last possible moment before leaving.
The island was almost sunk, and Love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."
Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel, "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with you." "Oh...Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"
Happiness passed by Love too; Happiness did not hear the cry for help; for Happiness was so happy.
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that Love forgot to ask the elder' s name.
When they arrived at dry land, the elder went on its way. Love, realizing how much it owed the elder asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked Love, "But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep Wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."

And...
The talk I had with Charlotte last night about the novel was eye-opening. Charlotte is, technically, my first true fan and editor. She has told me more things about the intricacies of my character interactions, my plotlines, and my settings than I even realized. She told me that from what she has read, my book is a love story at heart, but surrounded by that very creepy obsessed stalker storyline that gets the universe caught in the way. See, when I started writing, I thought I was going to create a novel about restoring the balance between good and evil, light and dark. But that's just a sidenote. This is about what happens when a psychotic maniac will do anything to get what he wants -- even destroy the world -- if it means winning the love and ultimate psionic powers of the woman he wants. *big grin* I think I'm over this hurtle now. I've decided to let Ian and Thomas discover just why Jeremy has been chasing after Dana without killing her yet -- he still wants to merge his powers with hers and rebuild the universe and reality, but now his motive is different from when I first started years ago: Jeremy and Dana are only the latest incarnations of the Shadow and the Phoenix anyway, and this isn't the first time the world has almost been destroyed because ultimate darkness desired the companionship of ultimate light for all eternity. That's the key, I think. The Shadow seeks to create eternity, all for the Phoenix. But in the process, he'd create eternal death, suffering, and pain. Nothing would end. It's a different kind of balance than what Dana as the Phoenix is fighting for. She wants to restore balance between the forces chaos and order. Jeremy as the Shadow wants to merge them. In my storyland, merging order and chaos would quite literally cause reality to rip itself apart.
Balance, see?
I know, I think I'm confused. But Charlotte did give me a lot to think about. So, kudos to her.
