Um...we have a kitten...
May. 21st, 2004 10:12 pmWhile Adam and I were at Charlotte and Billy's, Adam's mom called from her florist shop and told him she'd gotten him a present, and that it was alive. That worried us, since his mom and dad didn't want any more pets. We already have an eighteen-year-old mutt, a skittish cat, and two tanks of fish. So Adam was hoping it was a plant, or more fish. We came home, and his parents were sitting in the living room; his dad was in one of the leather arm chairs -- and sitting next to him was a tiny gray kitten.
Libby says that one of her employees had found a litter of very young kittens -- probably two or three months old -- cold and wet, and brought one in for Libby. She couldn't resist. Her excuse was that "She looks like Baby." Baby was Adam's cat, his witch's familiar, who died right before he and I started dating. Baby had claimed Adam as her mate and there had been a special human-cat bond between the two. This little furry bundle is smoky gray with gorgeous black-stripe markings. In fact, it looks like there is a butterfly in the patterns on her back. She seems to be a short hair Main Coon mutt. She has the Main Coon tufts of fur on the edge of her ears and the Main Coon black stripe markings. Huge paws and ears. And she has the classic trilling voice of a Main Coon. Just short haired. Adam is calling her Little Sister for now until we think of something else. We're waiting to see if she tells us her real name. She is quite a beauty. And she may turn out to be a familiar for one or both of us.
But, we have a cat. I never thought we could ever have a cat. Libby said many times that she wouldn't let us bring another stray animal in. And yet she did herself. So, hey. We have a baby. We have a little sister.
