The Elf requires firearm knowledge assistance

I need to know of any modern gun-type weapons that are handguns, can fire off single-round shots without needing to be fiddled with between shots, and whose bullets render much severe harm, as in shattering and fragmenting inside the body or bouncing around inside the body. Reason for query--I will be writing an upcoming scene in my science fantasy novel in which a duel takes place in the astral plane (psychic plane) and the villain materializes a late 20th century to early 21st century projectile hand weapon capable of doing severe harm to the hero if said bullet were to strike said hero. (This takes place in the early 24th century and one of my characters is a history buff who would understand the make of such a weapon). I also plan to have this gun morph into another kick-ass type of gun that fires multiple rounds per shot yet is still lightweight enough to be weilded in gun kata. Methinks I should go to the Watson's house and look up that webpage he showed me.

Naturally, this being science fiction and taking place in the astral plane, I plan to completely defy all laws of physics and make these guns change shape and fire as much as I want, when I want, how I want, so logistics wouldn't matter, but it would be very keen to show off firearm knowledge anyway for the heck of it.

is the .50 Auto Express Desert Eagle. the second largest bore commercial handgun on the planet. Yeah that's right Second......the people at Smith and Wesson came up with something BIGGER than 50cal Auto Express. That reminds me I have to send them a thank you note.
