Adam called me at work to tell me; he'd heard from the radio. I hadn't heard yet, since I'd been running the morning errands. I called up Yahoo News while on the phone with Adam, and something inside me turned gray. He told me, "Be thankful it hadn't happened in DC." Yes, thankful; lucky, because I take the subway every day to and from work. When he spoke, I heard his sadness and rage and worry for me, future worry; his wife taking the train every day in and out of the city that is seen as one of the most important and powerful cities in the world, a prime target. Was he even more worried when I worked on Pennsylvania Avenue?
I know that every day we need to thank the universe and our own dumb luck for being alive, but moments like this really reinforce that.
My heart extends to London and her children.
