Dear Nature: Knock it off. You aren't pleasing anyone.

I saw a woman walking out there dressed all in black. Long sleeves. Long pants. I wondered when she would burst into flames.
Whatever you do, don't wear black ankle boots. I really believed my feet were going to burn up. And I was only outside to walk to a deli and an ice cream shop and back to the office. Sadly, black is the only color of decent shoe I have. Even my open-toe sandals are black. I do have high-heeled white pumps that I might wear -- if I can learn to walk in them.

Downtown DC has turned into an oven. We are no longer breathing air, we are breathing heat.

And now, a lovely reminder from childhood...
