Dear Anthem Blue Cross PPO:

Thank you for still processing the paperwork that I sent in last month so I could be added to my new husband's insurance. Thank you for claiming I've have my card by July first, and then not sending it. I had to ask my husband to ask his boss to call you and ask you what was taking so long (as I am almost out of Strattera and have an appointment with a podiatrist next week, and I had assumed you had already processed my ID and group number, but when I tried to refill my prescription, I couldn't get it). You said that the paperwork was "taking a while" because of my cerebral palsy, because you were trying to get a discount for my disability among other things. That's very nice and all, thank you; but why couldn't you have told me that? You said I'd be covered starting the first of July. It's well past that now, in case you didn't know. And you never told me or my husband or his employer this? I would really like to have it taken care of. Soon. Thank you.
PS, if I get the card tomorrow, then never mind. Thank you again.
But you still should have told us.

*shakes head* Who knew being legally disabled could be so much friggin fun when it came to filing insurance paperwork?

I know what you mean...

I tried to apply for classification as legally disabled once when I was a student, and I got the response, "Do you have proof of your disability?" I was like, "well, look at me, what do you think?" What I was looking for was help with transportation, and they told me I had to have a signed statement from a doctor. *sigh*
Anyway, good luck with the podiatrist...

Heh... if I tried the "look at me" tactic, they'd laugh their heads off. I don't look disabled at all.
In fact, for good measure, when they asked me to send doctor's notes, I sent them every piece of paper ever filled out by doctors throughout my birth and childhood, anything that said I had cerebral palsy. I'm actually wondering if having to read all of that is what's holding them up! Then again, maybe it's because I didn't send them my most current physician's note saying that yes, the patient is disabled and has been all her life? Sheesh.

Yeah for me, the thing was, I wasn't under any kind of medical care, so the only proof of my visible disability would have been that I needed transportation help because of trouble walking long distances.
I don't really "look disabled" either. I'm mainly just not very graceful. ;)

You have issues with walking and aren't graceful too huh? Yeah, I get severe pain in my ankles and legs if I walk too far. And I do have a visible limp and stiffness.

I do have a pronounced limp when I'm tired, the atrophied muscles of my affected leg can only take so much.
To some extent, I think I've trained it out, having taken dance, yoga, fitness classes over the years. But as you know, there's just no permanent fix...

Hey. Since you had a "qualifying event" as in you got hitched, you should already be covered since that day even if you don't have cards yet.

You might even be able to go online and print out some temporary cards.

Really? I had no idea. They claim I'm not in the system, even as his spouse.

You may have to pay out of pocket at first, and then they will reimburse you once everything gets straightened out.

I'll probably do that with the podiatrist, yeah. I even called and asked how much an initial consultation would be. I can pay out of pocket easily, and make sure I'm reimbursed. Adam says I have to call Anthem and get a reimbursement form afterwards.

That sounds annoying and typical of health insurance plans. I'm confused as to how they can just delay the paperwork like that. i thought they didn't do medical underwritting on large employer sponsered health plans. They are probably required to reimburse you later for coverage you received as other people here have said but I'd be leary of that. they will probably come up with some rediculously small anount to reimburse you with. I assume your previous health insurance coverage ended? Hopefully things will work out for you.

Yeah, it ended. If I was going to end it with my employer after I got married, it had to be within 31 days. And my husband's insurance wouldn't have kicked in until several weeks after that no matter what... *shakes head*
