Adam had to go to downtown DC this morning for a computer setup at the Hilton where Reagan was shot, so he dropped me off near a Metro. Along the way, we were listening to his favorite XM Satellite radio show, Opie and Anthony (I love them too). They mentioned that the new Harry Potter book was coming out, and that they really didn't care. But then a listener called them, and proclaimed that he knew what happens at the end of the book. He had posted the spoiler on a website forum, and made several enemies, among them his friends. He said, "The half-blood prince is *name omitted* and *name omitted* kills *name omitted* in front of *name omitted*." Yes, he actually said names. But I refuse to say them here!
And Adam and I sat there grinning at each other, wondering how true this was. And then, Opie and Anthony presented a challenge to listeners: Someone could stand in front of a crowded huge name bookstore and hold up a sign proclaiming the ending, and see what happens.
*shakes head*
That would induce a murderous riot.
I will buy the book, but not right away. I'll wait for the mania to die down a little.

I don't even know if it's actually true. It could be -- which is why I will not breathe a word of it yet. Be VERY GLAD you were not listening, girl. My jaw hit the floor.
I'm still excited to read it, though!
*checks clock*

If I heard that, I would have just died! Of course, how true is it, as you said, but still!! :)

It was incredibly unexpected. Those names were NOT who I would have ever suspected, not in a million years. I guess we'll find out soon if it's true or not.
Yow. I hope it's not!

You know, I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books but this post has intrigued me enough that I may go ahead and start!

you should! they are very good. but the first one is a little...slow. so skim it or skip it (the movie is faithful enough that it is a perfectly acceptable substitute) or at least keep at it until book 3 where it really takjes off

Book 3 seems to be most people's favorite -- really fleshes out the characters and sets a good pace. I actually got a little bored with Book 4. Too much sports. I'll have to read it again. I did go through it in four days.
