They say that the DC Metro area will be in the nineties and feel like a hundred and two. That is insane. We'll be breathing moisture and heat instead of air. I am glad for the inhalers that I stocked up on for me and Adam.

I have lots of sunscreen. Actually, I have Aveda's Tourmaline Charged Protecting SPF Lotion, Coppertone Endless Summer Ultrasheer, and just about everything from BlueSageNaturals.com. I asked Janine at BSN to help me research the sunscreen powers of Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil. I know it works. She knows it works. But I want to prove it. I haven't gotten burned yet. Actually, I have a lovely light Sicilian bronzing going on. Which is surprising, since the other half of my genetics is Russian-Romanian. My mom never tans, white as milk. But my dad never burns, bronze as... bronze. I guess I'm in between.

Suddenly I want to be in Arizona. It may get to a hundred and two, but it's a dry heat. Actually, I just miss Sedona.

I think we have Florida weather. Feels like a swamp. No offense to any Floridians, of course. (And my in-laws want to move there?)

Hey, California, what's it like over there?

I try my best to never tan. Cancer runs heavily in my family and I don't want to risk getting skin cancer. So when I go out into the sun for more than just a few minutes I put on sunblock of SPF 50 or higher. We have shades and blinds covering all the windows in our apartment and we keep the AC at around 65 degrees. So where I live is dark and cool rather like a cave.

That's the best thing to do. I'd rather not go out at all without sunscreen, but I know I need the Vitamin D and all that. So I allow myself about twenty minutes of pure sun, then I apply the stuff. I don't have a family history of skin cancer, though. Still, sunscreen is the most important thing you can do for your skin, so I always advocate it. I'm just waiting for the day they can make something that's not chemical and still works as a screen, not a block (you do need some sun regardless). That's why I want to collect data on sea buckthorn, and how it absorbs UVA and UVA rays.

Dark and cool. That sounds lovely right now.

I'm originally from Arizona (far south from Sedona, though...Tucson) and now that I live in New York, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Sure, it's a dry heat, but I've been in 120 degree weather. Compared to that 90 degree heat, even with high humidity, isn't so bad.

Because of my time in Arizona, I can't get tan here for anything. I could become a homeless person and still be pale. I've also been told to avoid sunlight because I have blue eyes and light hair, and supposedly that makes you more prone to skin cancer.

I lived in San Francisco, and it was humid there, but cooler than the East Coast. The fog made breathing a challenge, but it usually doesn't hang out all year...just in the spring/fall. Southern California (LA and San Diego) is alot like Arizona, only you have the blessed relief of the ocean when the heat gets too bad.

Yeah, Arizona heat beats New York heat anyday. I was born and raised in New York, so I can say that. ;)

You should avoid sunlight, yeah. Well, not totally avoid it -- you need about ten or twenty minutes daily to get the vitamins and such. But fair-skinned and light-eyed people are more prone. Then again, there is my husband, who has blue eyes that occasionally turn gray to clear, but whose skin turns so dark he can be mistaken for Cherokee (actually, he is an official adopted Cherokee, long story). So I wouldn't say he is fair-skinned. But from what I hear anyone with either fair skin or light eyes and especially with both are more susceptible. What kind of sunscreen do you usually use?

CA is cooler? Interesting. I've been to San Fran once, when I was very little. We were near the ocean. Oh, it was bliss. I miss it. Where my parents live, in Sag Harbor, NY (inside the Hamptons) the ocean is a short drive away and you can walk to the bay. The Long Island Sound is so wonderful when it's humid and sticky. Probably not like the San Francisco Bay, though.

Wow, I am chatty today.

Yeah, I've had the whole "skin cancer" warning pounded into me since I was young, but I was quite the towhead when I was little, but now it's a light shade of brown. On the rare occassion that I am outside in the sunlight, I'm very bad and don't use any sunscreen at all. If I do, it's the stuff that is SPF 4, or worse, baby oil. I know, I know...it's bad, but I can't help it. I don't stay out all day, at least.

I used to work night shifts when I was active duty in the Air Force and I was actually treated for depression because I wasn't getting enough sunlight. I didn't know that before I took the shift, but the sunlight can actually cause you to be "happy" and if you don't get enough of the vitamins (I forget which ones), it can cause depression. I found that pretty interesting.

I am totally in love with San Francisco. Since the whole city is on the water, the ocean breezes cause it to be a lot cooler, and the elevation helps, too. The surroudning country-side (like Sausalito in Marin County) as beautiful to-die-for weather. It's cool and comfortable year round, with only a slight amount of rain. I really miss San Francisco.

I'm originally from the Monterey Bay in Cali, about two hours drive south from San Fran. Most of hte year it is about 68 degrees and foggy. The thing is that once you get into the valley, it is a dry heat and the coast acts as a natural air conditioner. It sucks in the fog off the ocean to get into the valley to cool it off some. Right now I seriously miss the fog.

It's incredibly hot (but dry) out here in Colorado...

I personally like Hawaii in the winter. It's warm, but not hot, and the ocean is the perfect temperature. And the lovely little rainstorms (liquid sunshine) bring about gorgeous rainbows.

Mmm, Hawaii. I have always wanted to go there. Where would you recommend?

It depends on what you want, really. Kauai and Maui are pretty and relaxed, I don't know much about them, really. Just that they're pretty and have a resort-like atmosphere. I love Oahu myself. It's got all of the history (the old palaces and the Polynesian Cultural Center), and you have Honolulu if you want a city with great restaurants and partying and whatnot, but you have the North Shore, too. Which is really just the surfer culture. The actual island Hawaii I like for a few days... gorgeous snorkeling and the volcanoes... but not much else. Lots of variety. ^_^

The tan's no surprise. Russian-Romanian tends toward the olive skin-tones too; you should see pictures of my mother's complection before her cancer. Your mom's pale tones are atypical. But they work for her :-)

Yeah, she's gorgeous with the pale skin. It'd look odd if she were olive, with her blue-gray eyes and light brown hair. :)
Actually, I found out that my grandmother had a decent amount of German blood. Her skin was so white you could see every blue of every vein. That must be where Mom gets it. Because the Hungarian blood shouldn't be so pale either. My grandfather was very olive. I remember he always seemed to have a perpetual mild tan.
