pain and mind
Jul. 21st, 2005 01:16 pmLast night I got home around eight, because buses and trains were running late. Adam came home shortly after I got out of the shower an hour later, and I went to sit with him in the living room after getting the dinner he'd made (spaghetti and shrimp). As I walked toward the second reclining chair, my legs and lower back started spasming and cramping. Badly. Sitting down, reclining, I was in tears and whimpering, and then Adam touched my thigh, just pressed his hand, and I let out a yell and then he touched my lower back and I nearly screamed.
I hate when that happens.
I let my guard down around my husband easily. This happens enough times where if I am around others I can hide it and push past the pain. But when I am in my home, with my loved one, why bother? He helped massage and stretch. It's what needs to be done. His mom came home soon after and gave me some extra strength Motrin. I also took a double dose of MSM and Omega-3 Complex.
The pain was gone when I woke up this morning. But the muscles in my legs are still incredibly tight and clenched. I know that xanateria and a few other people with CP who are on my friends list know just what I'm talking about. All the muscle and nerve relaxers in the world won't help some days.
Oh, well. Is life.
Because Adam's insurance company is still "debating" on when and how to add me onto his policy (it's because I have a pre-existing disability and they have to figure out how much I'll cost, what are the pros and cons, etc -- would have been nice of them to tell me this a month ago when they promised they'd put me on there), I am still uninsured and therefore unable to pay for my Strattera, which I have been out of for a week. So in the meantime, I remembered something that was said in one of the natural medicine communities (I think Eric said something too) and have started a supplement cocktail until I get on the damn policy. A few days ago I started taking a full combination of: Gotu Kola, Schizandra, Bacopa, and L-Tyrosine in the mornings; and DMAE, GABA, L-Theanine, and Omega-3 at night. It seems to have regulated me much in the same way that Strattera did, with slightly different overall effects. From what I've learned, the fatty acids combined with tyrosine seem to have some of the greatest effects, while DMAE by itself is one of the best, I still want to continue the Strattera, of course, but these are good supplements to take with it.
The supplements also regulate the way I feel pain, I've noticed. As in, I feel it less intense, less often, am able to handle it better. That is good.
I am just being very careful until I get on the policy, is all.

Date: 2005-07-21 06:44 pm (UTC)you should get temp health insurance to cover the gap. It costs about $30-75/month depending on the coverage level. Coverage is effective immediately. It sucks in that it wont cover preexisting conditions or mental health. But if you were to break a bone or get cancer etc you would be covered. Even if your new insurance does take you if you get majorly sick now without coverage your really screwed because the new insurance can say you werent covered when it occured and kick in a waiting period for coverage. Also absolutely do not let your coverage lapse for more than 63 days. Under Hippa regs if your insurance lapse is under 63 days you are considered continuously insured. Otherwise when you get on your husbands plan they could put a waiting period of up to a year or two before they cover preexisting conditions.
Since I'm self employed I have to buy my own coverage and since I have CP no one will insure me so...
I get temp health insurance from www.hpa-inc.com. its effective the same day you apply and they ask you 4 questions...Do you have insurance? Do you have aids? are you now or planing to become pregnant? and have you had a heart attack? If you pass those 4 questions you're in. They covered me and didnt care that I have CP. For the day to day stuff it sucks but I would be covered for something major.
I also have a backup plan for my insurance if I do get really sick. I can join Cigna PPO health insurance through my professional society without medical under writing and it covers everything including preexisting conditions. But it is $425/month with a $2k deductible. to much $$ for me. So If I get really sick I'll join that but for now I do temp ins and avoid doctors.
sorry for rambling good luck
Drew

Date: 2005-07-21 07:01 pm (UTC)Reading your posts give me insight on how I deal with pain, which is not much different than yours, except I vocalise more. I cannot compare your pain to mine, but I am sending you my love and energy.
