Formatting and Converting
Sep. 12th, 2005 04:07 pmThis is for all the writers here with MS Word:
You know how in an MS Word document, the quotation and apostrophe marks are designed one way -- curving -- while online, like in LJ, Yahoo email, and Gmail, they're straight; and when attempting to cut and paste or convert from one to the other, the translation is lost?
Case in point: A few nights ago, at Charlotte's, I had an urge to write a scene in the novel. So, on their computer, I decided to write the text into my Gmail, save the draft, and then cut and paste into the Word document when I got home. However, the quotation and punctuation marks remained the same as they had looked online, and I had to waste time going through the whole thing correcting them.
Is there any way to "preserve" these punctuation marks while I'm transferring text from online to Word? Because I don't want to have to "correct" them if I don't have to.

This way, the text you see in word will look exactly like the online version, and you don't risk pasting unreadable characters into the online version.
You will probably need to change the font of the pasted text to enable the autoquoting feature to take affect if you have the feature turned on. Some fonts don't support this Microsoft feature.
