Poor kitty
Sep. 12th, 2005 08:07 pmTuesday is in full heat, and for some odd reason, she has taken an extreme liking to lying down on glass tabletops. The nightstand next to my side of the bed, the kitchen table, even a mirror that's on the floor. She will murmur and trill and cry and scoot her back legs frantically on glass more than any others surface. Her cries no longer sound cute and sweet to me. They are the cries of an animal in pain. If you've ever seen a housecat in heat, you'll know. It's torture. Their genitals swell and throb just like ours, but there is no relief for days -- almost a week. Even if there were male cats to mate with, the pain continues.
I notice that she gets relief if I hold her down with one hand against her upper back, and pat her with the other just above the base of her tail. So that is all right.
Charlotte and her mom are working on getting the paperwork for the coupons and discounts from the Humane Society. We are going to say that Tuesday is Charlotte's cat -- either that she is Shadow's third kitten (who actually died, who looked exactly like Tuesday) or that Charlotte and Billy adopted Tuesday because she reminded them of them kitten who died. That way we can get the price knocked down at least a hundred bucks at the place that took care of Shadow, Buster and Baby.
(Beth: I found out that it should cost one-fifty total for the actual spaying, by the way. You were right. For the rest of it, I will get the money together myself. I want to wait until she is out of heat, of course, and once Charlotte gets that paperwork. I'll let you know once everything is ready)

Date: 2005-09-13 01:03 am (UTC)It gives her something else to think about, and if you do it in warm water, she won't be uncomfortable. It'll take 45 mins- 2 hours to lick herself dry, and she will not be howling nearly as bad.
It was affective with putt-putt. Good luck.

Date: 2005-09-13 02:39 am (UTC)Funny, though, when she was a teeny baby and escaped out into the backyard, we'd reprimand her by dunking her under a warm shower; and she wouldn't make a peep or move at all...

Date: 2005-09-13 01:40 am (UTC)Tuesday doesn't mind being wet, as long as Adam holds her... we may have to try that.
Thanks, doll!

Here is something that worked a little bit better for my cat when she went in to heat, the first and only time... I had the warm water running, and I held her from the scruff of the neck and supported her back. Then I placed her genital region under the running water. She immediately calmed down and started closing her eyes as if in ecstacy.
