Caturday in the sun
May. 3rd, 2008 09:14 pmI met Linda in Bethesda at the Celebrate Mama street fair. She and I sold some stuff, but the profits just barely exceeded te cost Linda had to pay to actually be a vendor. She won't be doing this again, and I can't blame her. Sitting for seven hours in the blazing heat, smiling at people as they walk by, customers opening the lipsticks and trying them on their hands without asking, etc. I could tell Linda was getting annoyed and exhausted. She could have spent the day in her lab, filling orders. I understood completely. She says it's just not worth it anymore, and I have to agree. But I definitely enjoyed helping her. I didn't mind sitting out there trying to sell products. Several people were very happy and enthusiastic about the the all-natural and organic ingredients, and I think Linda will have some new online customers.
One of the other vendors at the street fair was Beauticontrol, whom I have never bought from but was always intrigued by. They showed me a lipstick called Godiva, a color in the Platinum Regeneration Lip Color line. It's meant to be a brownish wine red. It looks like a chocolate cherry in the tube, but on my lips it is a very dark cranberry wine red. It has hyaluronic acid, Maxi-Lip, and butters and oils. They sold it to me at a discount. It's a very cute lipstick. I don't know if I'll buy anything else from them, but that color is now on my Favorite Cosmetics List.
The fair ended at four, so we packed up Linda's van with her husband's help, and I walked back to the Bethesda metro, riding to the Rockville metro. From there I walked to Charlotte's house. Adam had been there for a few hours, after working for the day.
My arms got nicely pink from the sun, and will soon be tan. I love my father's genetics for that. Everyone in my dad's family turns bronze in the summer. Thanks to my mother's genes, I'm incredibly pale in the winter, but in the summer my dad's genes take over. I don't burn easily, and the tan I get is gorgeous. I still prefer the paleness, though. Adam keeps trying to get me to tan. I don't like being tanned as much as I like being fair-skinned. Once I get home, I'll apply Linda's Anti-Element Emollient, which has sun protection and sun repair properties. Linda is paying me for my time at the fair with her, but really if nothing else, I'll always want the Anti-Element Emollient. Besides, I'm the one who insisted that she add tamanu and helichrysum, so she and I agreed that it can be like a payment for the times I help her.
I finished reading Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy and will begin reading the second book in the series, Frostbite. This is one of the best YA book series I have read in a long, long time. Finally, a brand new, fresh, fantastic twist on the vampire legend. I don't usually devour YA books with this sort of verocity anymore.
