Around six this morning -- forty minutes before the alarm was set to go off -- Luna woke me up. By treating me like a cat. I opened my eyes to find her headbutting my forehead, cheek, and chin intently. She licked my face and neck with great enthusiasm. She licked my hands and fingers, nibbling occasionally. She would not let up and kept circling me, climbing over me, nuzzling my hair, grooming my hairline, purring with an insanity that only a cat could muster. I rolled onto my back and she finally settled into the space between my ankles. By that time, it was 6:25 and I was awake. I got up without disturbing Luna, shut off the alarm, watched news and weather, got dressed, drank a bottle of Sambazon Acai Energy smoothie, and headed out to the bus stop to catch the 6:55 bus instead of the 7:15 bus.
You know, the first thought I'd had when Luna started grooming me -- aside from "Awwwww!" was "Oh, crap, how long does it take for moisturizers to absorb into the skin? It was at 10:30, so... seven and a half hours... it should be fine for her to lick me, shouldn't it? Yeah, it's fine." However, if she's going to do this in the mornings, I think from now on I'll do my nightly facial routine a little earlier, just in case. That lotion contains a lot of essential oils and plant extracts. (Yes, I know I'm being silly and paranoid. I'm weird like that.) Actually, does anyone know the average amount of time it takes for a lotion or oil to completely absorb into skin?

My friend often wakes up to her cat grooming her, including liking her face and trying to groom her very long hair (that is not all that successful, since the cat tends to tangle it).

Phae is a 32 lb Maine Coon - I think its hard to sleep through a cat that size grooming you.

But yeah, I think having that seep into your sking overnight is sufficent.

Almost every cat I know loves human hair. My husband and roommate, who both have short hair, find themselves being head groomed by Luna for at least twenty minutes at a time. I'm not sure what it is about hair!

32 pounds! Damn, that's a massive cat. And I thought my parents' old 25-pound orange tabby was huge!

He looks like a small lion, but he is actually just a big old bag of puddin'. You can pick him up and hold him upside down, and he doesn't care, as long as there is petting involved. The most gentle thing ever.

Almost makes me want a Maine Coon; I hear the breed is naturally like that.

They are so BIG. I'd love a Maine Coon. I just would never be able to convince myself to purchase a cat (hhmmmm Wonder if there is Maine Coon Rescue). Our kitties have all been rescues. The dogs except Trooper were as well.

How sweet Luna must be! I wake up to puppy kisses on a nearly daily basis but that isn't as sweet as kitty grooming.
